SCRA, an applied research and technology services company, received three Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement awards from the Department of Defense Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Program at the annual Defense Manufacturing Conference in Anaheim, Calif. The Prosthetics and Orthotics Manufacturing Initiative was among the winning projects.
The initiative improved the durability and comfort of prosthetics and orthotics for wounded men and women in the armed services, according to a press release. The project, which was funded by Office of Naval Research ManTech Program and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Manufacturing Science and Technology Program, resulted in 50% lighter, more comfortable sockets with increased production, longer lifecycles and a 40% decrease in the cost of manufacturing.
“We are honored to have received these prestigious awards,” Bill Mahoney, chief executive officer of SCRA, stated in the release. “We are focused on improving the quality of life for wounded warriors by making prosthetics more lightweight and comfortable.”
