The Orthotic and Prosthetic Assistance Fund (OPAF) has officially changed its name to the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation. The name change was approved during the 2011 American Orthotics and Prosthetics Association National Assembly.
OPAF was originally founded as the Orthotic and Prosthetic Athletic Activities Foundation in 1995 and is currently supported by The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA), the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) and the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC).
“We are delighted that the name change to Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation reflects the type of services offered by OPAF. The First Clinics have continued to grow and each offers introductory adaptive instruction by the most qualified instructors available. OPAF remains committed to our mission, and we look forward to introducing even more firsts during 2012,” Michael Burton, OPAF president, stated in a press release.
New officers in 2012 include Michael Burton, president; Scott Williamson, CAE, vice president; Lisa Arbogast, treasurer; and Don Hardin, immediate past president.
New board members include Justina Shipley, CO, director of orthotics and prosthetics for Shriners Hospital for Children in Shreveport, La.; Tami Jones, president of OpalStar Strategies; and Bruce Jaster, The Jaster Companies.
A new look for the organization, along with a new website, will be introduced during the AAOP Annual Meeting in Atlanta. OPAF also hopes to incorporate First Fish, Sail, Walk/Run and Kick into the 2012 First Clinics schedule.
