The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) welcomes three new members to its board of directors following the retirement of two other members. In addition, ABC announced that Donald D. Virostek, CPO is now the president of the board of directors.
Virostek received his bachelors from the University of Pittsburg and attended the University of Texas Southwestern for his orthotic and prosthetic training. He earned his Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist credential from ABC in 1993. He has worked for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children for 16 years and served as the hospital’s director of orthotics for the past 5 years. He has served on the ABC board since 2003.
Christopher J. Fairman, CPO, Deborah Merritt Plescia, CPO and Anthony Sertick, Jr., JD, all joined the board on December 1.
Fairman, co-owner of Great Lakes Prosthetics and Orthotics, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his orthotic and prosthetic education from Northwestern University. He has been volunteering with the ABC Prosthetic Exam and Prosthetic CPM Administration Teams for several years.
Plescia, currently a practitioner for Hanger P&O, has volunteered with ABC for many years as an examiner, exam development and administration team member and facility accreditation surveyor. She attended Northwestern University for her orthotic and prosthetic education.
Sertick will serve on the board as a public member. He received his undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University and his law degree from the University of Akron. He also serves on the Board of Mahoning County Developmental Disabilities, his local Goodwill Board of Trustees and the Board of Hine Memorial Fund.
Thomas F. Coakley, public member, and Robert S. Lin, CPO, FAAOP retired from the board. Coakley had been a member since 1999 and was influential in the strategic and financial planning of ABC. Lin became a member in 2003 and served as president in 2009.
