LAS VEGAS – W. Clint Snell, CPO, president of Snell Orthotics-Prosthetics, was presented with the Legislative Advocacy Award at the 2011 American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association National Assembly here. Thomas DiBello, CO, LO, FAAOP, AOPA president presented Snell with the award for his lifetime achievements in advocacy for the O&P profession on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.
“If we do not advocate for ourselves and our industry on Capitol Hill and in our state capitals, who will?” DiBello said at the AOPA National Assembly. “We have to do that. We have to take that challenge. Clint Snell is one of those people have taken that challenge year in year out for many years.”
Snell has advocated for O&P patients at the state and federal level and was instrumental in the passing of insurance fairness.
“I really appreciate this award,” Snell said to the audience at the National Assembly. “I want to thank the AOPA Board and the AOPA staff for making this possible. I look at the future of orthotics and prosthetics and I see young practitioners. That future is loaded with opportunity.”
Snell discussed the profession seizing that opportunity by developing relationships.
“You can go to a town hall meeting,” he said. “You can invite people to your office. You can support O&P’s political action committee. We are a small group when you look at national health care but the challenges of national health care give us all opportunities to get our message out as well as our patients’ message out.”
Snell advised the audience to take advantage of the opportunity given to them.
“The work we do is unbelievable,” he said. “We give our patients independent freedom. If we are going to seize the future, we have to make these opportunities work.”
