Vance C. Meadows, CP, retired from a career in O&P in 1996, after 52 years. He began his work in prosthetics in Washington, D.C. where he completed his apprenticeship in October 1949. After working for several limb companies, he started his own business in September 1956, in Grand Rapids, Mich. He attended UCLA and Northwestern University where he later thought it was his passion to care for people, although he enjoyed working with children the most.
Meadows was involved with making the first Michigan Feeder Arm and Grand Rapids became the “hot spot” for kids who needed prostheses.
Later in life, Meadows moved to Denver where he retired from Meadows Orthopedic. He did at the age of 87 years.
