Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA) and the Capital of Texas Triathlon announced they will sponsor Team Warfighter Sports’ participation in the this year’s Capital of Texas Triathlon (CapTexTri) on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011 in downtown Austin, Texas.
Severely injured service members, including some who have fought in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, will participate in this race. Triathletes from first timers to professionals will compete in the different distances offered. The team is also supported by CapTexTri organizers and volunteers who come together to enable the service members to experience one of the most accessible and thrilling events of its kind.
“Disabled Sports USA is pleased and honored to partner with the Capital of Texas Triathlon to provide an opportunity for severely injured service members to compete and excel as athletes,” Kirk Bauer, JD, executive director of DSUSA and a disabled Vietnam veteran, stated in a press release.
DSUSA’s Warfighter Sports program is a calendar of endurance events that test and reestablish the skills of the severely injured service members. The team will consist of seventeen disabled members; each will swim, bike and run.
