Tom Cooper of Waldorf, Md. was named the newest First Volley tennis instructor. Cooper is the eighth certified First Volley instructor for the adaptive tennis program OPAF and The First Clinics. Cooper brings more than 25 years of tennis experience to First Volley.

Cooper is an active duty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and a 1994 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, where he was captain of the tennis team and a nationally ranked player. Cooper is currently stationed in the Office of Aeronautical Engineering at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In 2009 Cooper was inducted into the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Hall of Heroes for his rescue efforts of 157 people during Hurricane Katrina. He holds a master of science degree in systems engineering from John Hopkins University.
Cooper and his wife, Lynne are the proud parents of two daughters, Mary Kate and Caroline. Mary Kate was born missing her fibula and is a transtibial amputee who enjoys soccer, tennis and swimming.
