Jan Paul Miller, MEd, MA, has joined The Board of
Certification/Accreditation (BOC), International as its new certification
director.

Miller most recently served as program manager at the National Institute
for the Certification of Engineering Professionals, where he established
procedures for managing test construction from contact with subject matter
experts through beta testing to final test roll-out. Earlier, he was vice
president for certification at the Construction Manager Certification
Institute/Construction Management Association of America.
“We feel fortunate to add to our staff someone with Jan Paul’s
experience and knowledge of certification processes,” Claudia Zacharias,
MBA, CAE, president and chief executive officer of BOC, stated in a press
release. “He brings experience in several disciplines to BOC, and his
commitment to helping people qualify for certification is both wide and
deep.”
Miller began his career as a college teacher; he has also worked with
adult learners and with other groups in a variety of venues. He gained
administrative experience at departmental and divisional levels while studying
learning style diagnosis and learning disabilities remediation. He is a former
associate editor of an international journal on dyslexia and has served as a
consultant to colleges and universities. He has also been an invited speaker at
community, regional, national and international conferences.
Miller earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland,
Baltimore County. He received master’s degrees first in English at Morgan State
University and then in education at Loyola University of Maryland. Miller has
completed doctoral studies in adult learning theory and community college
administration at George Mason University.
“I look forward to working with people who are committed to
achieving certification in O&P,” Miller stated. “Combining a
background in education with my certification experience seems a natural
progression, and I am especially pleased at the opportunity to join the allied
health field at a time when health care is both expanding and changing. The BOC
staff has a central role to play in O&P and I’m excited at the chance to be
part of it.”
