Kids Mobility Network Inc. announced that it has provided more than $1.5 million of community benefit to children with disabilities and their families. The Denver-based non-profit organization has been providing durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers and other medical equipment to children with disabilities since 2006.
“Kids Mobility Network has been providing durable medical equipment to hundreds of children with disabilities across Colorado and beyond for several years now and we are very proud of the community benefit that our organization has provided,” Christy Kopp, executive director, Kids Mobility Network Inc., stated in a press release. “Demand for our services continues to grow. Every year we help more children than prior years.”
Since its inception in 2006, the organization has served hundreds of children with disabilities and their families, providing several hundred pieces of durable medical equipment. This equipment includes manual and power wheelchairs, walkers, gait trainers, standers and a host of other pieces of equipment that help children to better access their communities and better interact with their peers during their important development years.
“The purpose of durable medical equipment is so far beyond mobility,” Kopp stated. “It is about allowing kids to be doers, not observers. This peer interaction provides enhanced development of interpersonal skills and self confidence — something that is critical to every child’s development.”
Kids Mobility Network is rapidly expanding due to increasing needs for the services provided by the organization. Typical medical insurance rarely covers the need for durable medical equipment, so the services provided by Kids Mobility Network are needed now more than ever.
“Our greatest challenge to date has been attaining adequate financial resources to hire the necessary staff to meet the growing demand for our services,” Kopp stated. “We are actively seeking corporate sponsors and donors to help us build up Kids Mobility Network to serve the many children that require our services. We believe that no child should go without the appropriate equipment, but it is getting harder to meet the growing demand.”
