The Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) announced its 2011 officers and board of directors. Serving in 2011 are: Marshall J. Cohen of New York, returning to the position of chairman of the board; Pat Chelf of Minnesota, returning to the position of vice-chair; and Jeff Lutz of Louisiana, returning to the position of treasurer. Each officer will serve for a 1-year term.
“As the Amputee Coalition enters its 25th year, I appreciate the vote of confidence I have been given and I am again honored to serve as chairman of the board,” Marshall J. Cohen, stated in a press release. “As a board and as an organization, we are dedicated to serving the limb loss community and to ensuring that the Amputee Coalition is responsive to the needs of people affected by limb loss. We have made much progress in 25 years, and are looking forward to celebrating our successes while also providing inspiration for the next 25 years.”
Elected to the ACA’s board is Thomas Dennis Strickland, III, from Atlanta, Ga. Strickland, an amputee, is retired from the BellSouth Corporation after a 30-year career in which he held a variety of positions, including executive director; president, BellSouth Information Systems; vice-president, international operations; general network manager; chief engineer; and assistant vice-president, human resources. He holds a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s in business administration degree from Georgia State University.
In addition to serving on the boards of several multinational companies and BellSouth subsidiaries, Strickland has been active with the ACA as chair of the Membership Committee and other task forces and committees. He served as chief financial officer of the Amputee Foundation of Greater Atlanta. Strickland has worked as a volunteer office-holder for the American Heart Association for more than 25 years.
Continuing on the ACA board are David McGill, New York; Kathy Spozio, Pennsylvania; Jeffrey Cain, MD, Colorado; Scott Stevens, MD, Tennessee; Charles Steele, New York; Terrence Sheehan, MD, Maryland; and Tami Stanley, Utah.
