ORLANDO, Fla. — Graham Archer, CPed Tech (C), CPed (C) opened this
year’s
North American Pedorthic Congress by welcoming both PAC and
Pedorthic Footwear Association (PFA) members. He estimated that there are more
than 700 delegates in attendance, with more than 1,100 attendees including
sponsors and exhibitors — making this “the largest pedorthic
convention that I think the world’s ever seen,” Archer, vice
president of Pedorthic Services at Kintec in the Lower Mainland of Canada and
president of the Pedorthic Association of Canada (PAC), said here.
“This is actually the largest gathering of Canadian pedorthists
we’ve ever had,” he said. “I guess it takes Mickey Mouse to get
[attendance up].”
He thanked those involved with the planning of the Congress, as well as
the attendees for their support. He also acknowledged the 2010 North American
Planning Committee — Deny Dallaire, CPed (C), Mike Forgrave, CPed, CPed
(C), Dana LaFontsee, CPed, and Michael Van Vlack, CPed Tech (C), CPed (C), and
led the group in a moment of silence for Van Vlack, who died this year.
He advised attendees to work with available marketing options to
continue growing their practices and businesses and, thereby, advancing the
profession. Just within Canada, he said, a lot of young people currently are
entering the profession and this “bodes well for the future of
pedorthics.”

Kristi Hayes, CPed, from Shane’s Foot Comfort Center in Seattle,
introduced herself to the Congress as the new PFA president. A self-proclaimed
“workaholic,” she challenged attendees to achieve their goals.
Hayes also emphasized the wealth of experience available to pedorthists
simply by becoming involved in organizations like PFA and PAC. “I, along
with the boards of the PFA and PAC, will need your support to help continue to
uplift this profession. We need to solve problems and discuss issues
together,” she said.
“This is pedorthics on a global scale,” Hayes said.
