The Chinese capital of Beijing has won the right to host the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) General Assembly in December.
The General Assembly meets every 2 years and the decision to take the event to Beijing follows a detailed review of the bids received and a site visit to each bidding city.
“We are very excited to be holding the General Assembly in Beijing next December as it is an opportunity to build on the legacy of the 2008 Paralympic Games. I would like to congratulate the city of Beijing for their excellent bid and I think the fact that this will be the fourth consecutive General Assembly in Asia reflects the growing presence of the Paralympic Movement in the continent. We would also like to pay credit to NPC Hungary who presented an excellent bid to host the event. However, the opportunity to build on the legacy of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and the momentum that those Games started was too good an opportunity to miss.” Sir Philip Craven, IPC president, stated in a press release.
