Hanger Orthopedic Group recently completed its move to Austin, Texas. Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Opportunity Austin chair Tim Crowley and Hanger chief executive officer Tom Kirk, PhD, as well as leaders from the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) and more than 50 elected officials and dignitaries helped officially welcome the company to its new headquarters at the Domain in Northwest Austin.
“Our move has been made much easier by the friendly and supportive welcome we’ve received from Austin and Texas,” Kirk stated in a press release. “We were drawn to the entrepreneurial spirit of Texas and especially of Austin. Our company has been in existence for nearly 150 years, but we still operate with a value of entrepreneurial and flexible operations that drove the founding of our company. These are also evident in Central Texas and that is why this metro area is one of the most dynamic regions, not just in the U.S., but also in the world.”
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony included local and state dignitaries: Leffingwell; Crowley; Marshall Cohen, board chair of the ACA; Cassie Holman from U.S. Representative Mike McCaul’s office; Tad Curtis with the Governor’s Economic Development Office; Sandy Hentges from State Senator Kirk Watson’s office; and Tony Whiteley, a local amputee patient who credits Hanger for his recovery.
“Austin has long been a center for innovation and technology. We’re pleased to be raising our profile in the medical technology field as well, and having Hanger here is a big part of that,” Leffingwell stated. “Job creation and economic development are fundamental issues and Hanger’s headquarters will create opportunities for people and for other companies here in Austin. But in Austin, we also care about making the world a better place and helping people. So it’s fitting that we’re here to formally welcome to town a company that not only offers great jobs, but also does great things.”
According to a press release, Hanger estimates it will have approximately 145 employees working in its new corporate offices by the end of this year, with approximately 100 new, local hires. Over the next several years, Hanger anticipates growing to more than 250 employees working from its 75,000-square-foot Austin office. Hanger has three patient care centers in the Austin area.
