Summa Foundation has received a $1 million gift from Robert and Joyce Rice and family to establish the Robert F. Kepley, MD Orthopaedic Fellowship at Summa Health System. Named in honor of Robert Kepley, MD, the fellowship will provide ongoing support to enhance the medical education of orthopedic residents at Summa Health System. The selection of the fellow will be based on the resident’s character, emerging clinical skills and interest in combining medical practice with compassionate patient care, according to a press release.
“We are so grateful to the Rice family for their generosity,” Thomas J. Strauss, Summa Health System president and chief executive officer, stated in the release. “Dr. Kepley is a technically gifted surgeon who embodies the humanistic approach to healing. This is a befitting honor for him and will have a remarkable impact on orthopedic training and research at Summa — and thousands of patients — for many years to come.”
The research fellow must be a Summa Health System orthopedic resident with a particular specialty focus on the needs of patients who undergo and recover from hip, knee, hand, spine, foot, ankle and shoulder care, as well as joint replacement, oncology, sports medicine, pain management, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
