On June 18, the Opening Ceremony and for Extremity Games
5 (eX5) Main Event welcomed athletes and fans to competitions including wakeboarding, skateboarding,
kayaking and rock climbing, as well as clinics in these sports and mixed
martial arts.
Down the street from the host hotel, events started off with
wakeboarding at the Texas Ski Ranch (TSR). Extremity Games veteran, Billy Tonis
took first place. Mike Schultz came in second place and newcomer, Brandon
Robins went home with third, according to a press release.
In the street-style skateboarding competition, Stephen Shope grabbed
first place, Oscar Loreto second place and Alex Millertook third place.
Mike Schultz and Kelly Allen took first place (men’s and
women’s respectively), Jim Wazny and Brooke Artesi second place and third
place went to newcomer Jeff Waldmuller and Amy Purdyin the kayaking
competition..
The final competition for the day was on TSR’s rock wall. Climbers
Jeff Waldmuller and Brooke Artesi scaled the walls for first place in
men’s and women’s divisions respectively. Alex Miller and Kelly Allen
grabbed the men’s and women’s second place finishes and Horst Behner
held on to the third place finish in the men’s competition.
