CLEARWATER, Fla. — Robin C. Crandall, MD, president of the
Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC), officially opened this year’s Annual Meeting on
Wednesday morning.
Crandall extended his welcome to members of the Orthopedic
Rehabilitation Association (ORA), who joined ACPOC here for the first time.

He highlighted the meeting’s keynote speakers, including Rene
Baumgartner, MD, Kenneth Guidera, MD, and John R. Fisk, MD.
Todd F. Anderson, CP, FAAOP, vice president of professional and clinical
services for Otto Bock North America, presented awards to this year’s
investigative research award winners:
- First place – Anka Michielsen, PT, MSc, for “Parent
and Self-Reported Participation and Health-Related Quality of Life in Dutch
Children and Adolescents With Congenital Lower Limb Deficiencies;” - Second place – Anne E. Fecko, OTRL, MSEd, BEO, for
“Orthotic Treatment of Pectus Carinatum: A Secondary Retrospective
Analysis;” and - Third place – Katelynn Craig for “Developing and
Implementing Force Transducers in Gross Motor Tasks as a Means of Quantitative
Assessment.”
“We have a good meeting so far,” Crandall told O&P
Business News. “I like the fact that we have [Jacquelin Perry, MD,
ScD]. This is the first time I’ve seen her at an ACPOC meeting, because of
the ORA affiliation so that’s been fantastic. We’re seeing a lot of
doctors I haven’t seen before. It’s good for ACPOC, and just in
general for children’s limb deficiencies and other pediatric
problems.”
Crandall, an orthopedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Partners PA in Minnesota,
said he admires the discourse among the therapists, prosthetists, orthotists
and physicians at the meeting.
Next year’s event will take place March 30-April 2, 2011 at The
Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah.
