LEIPZIG — Following the success seen with the event at the 2008
Leipzig International Trade Show, an expanded Paralympics Day will be held on
Saturday, May 15.
As part of the program, the German National Wheelchair Basketball Team,
which is currently training in Leipzig for the upcoming world championship,
will compete against the Polish National Team. A long-jump competition for
athletes with prostheses or visual impairment will also take place.
“The Paralympic Day is the leading event in Germany to bring
together Paralympic sports and opportunities in disabled and rehabilitation
sports,” Marketa Marzoli, press spokeswoman of the National Paralympic
Committee Germany stated in a press release.
The Paralympic Day Working Group consists of: Frank Jüttner,
president of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology; Georg Blome,
commercial director of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology; Martin
Buhl-Wagner, managing director of Leipziger Messe; and Ronald Beyer,
International Trade Show project director.
Paralympics Day will feature top athletes and others actively involved
in disabled sports. Visitors will also get a chance to participate.
