CHICAGO – With competitive bidding and health care
reform looming, it is best for business owners to get all of the processes in
line now rather than waiting for the dust to settle, according to an O&P
consultant.
“This is the only thing right now you have a
control over,” Joyce Perrone of Promise Consulting said at the
American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Meeting and Scientific
Symposium, here. “This is the only place where you can save money and get
waste out of the system. Taking waste out of the system … is a
science.”
She suggested looking at processes, streamlining and
customizing them and making them repeatable so the task is completed
efficiently and correctly. She also suggested using checklists to avoid errors.
“An error is waste,” she said. “Every
time you have an error there is an opportunity to correct something. Learn how
to be process experts.”
