CHICAGO — Several Academy members received awards
for their contributions to the O&P profession at opening session of the
American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Annual Meeting and Scientific
Symposium.
Scott D. Cummings, PT, CPO, FAAOP, the
Academy’s president elect, presented the awards.

John W. Michael, MEd, CPO/LPO, FISPO, FAAOP, past
president of the Academy and Practitioner Advisory Council member for
O&P Business News, received the Titus-Ferguson Award for his
outstanding career as a leader in the profession and a provider of quality care
to individuals with disabilities.
Upon his acceptance of the lifetime-achievement award,
Michael quipped that he was for once at a loss for words.
Cummings presented Robert S. Lin, CPO, FAAOP,
with the Distinguished Practitioner Award for leading the profession in
education and research, and providing quality care to the physically
challenged.
“To be honored like this among your peers is truly
gratifying, but most humbling,” Lin said while accepting the award.
For his commitment to helping those children unable to
afford O&P care, Jordan Thomas, received the Mohamed Amin Award,
which has been awarded only three times since 1990, according to the
Academy’s Web site. Jim Rogers, CPO, FAAOP, accepted the award on
Thomas’ behalf.
Keith M. Smith, CO, LO, FAAOP, president of the
Academy, also presented JoAnne Kanas, DPT, CPO, clinical content
committee chair, and Jeffry G. Kingsley, exhibit chair, with
certificates of appreciation for their efforts in planning this event.
