OPAF and The First Clinics hosted two First Swim Clinics as part of the 2009 Amputee Coalition of America Conference (ACA) in Atlanta. This is the second year that OPAF has hosted First Swim clinics at ACA. This year’s sponsor for the First Swim Clinics was Freedom Innovations. All clinic attendees were presented with a First Swim/Freedom Innovations t-shirt to commemorate the event.
First Swim was led by OPAF’s director of swimming, Jason Wening, CP, a three-time Paralympic champion and gold medal winner. Wening, along with a group of volunteer swim coaches and physical therapists, helped clinic attendees in and around the pool area. Participants worked on swim strokes as well as feeling comfortable in the water.
“This partnership between ACA, OPAF and The First Clinics is a win-win for everyone,” Robin Burton, OPAF executive director said in a press release. “ACA recognizes the need for top notch adaptive instruction in recreation to keep their population fit and integrated socially. We look forward to a long and fruitful working relationship.”
