ABC/NCOPE Awarded ISPO Category I Recognition
The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) awarded the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics Inc. (ABC) and the National Commission on Orthotics and Prosthetics Education (NCOPE) Category I recognition. ISPO’s acknowledgement of ABC/NCOPE’s educational pathway to receive a certified orthotist/prosthetist (CPO) designation has helped propel ABC/NCOPE onto the international stage.
“ABC is excited about gaining ISPO Category I recognition. For the U.S. education and certification process, achieving Category I status is a tremendous step in international recognition and external validation,” Robert S. Lin, CPO, FAAOP, president of ABC said in a press release. “While ABC and NCOPE have believed strongly in our processes and standards, recognition by the international community not only reaffirms the strength of our efforts but also fosters worldwide collaboration in O&P education and training.”
ACA Names Marshall Cohen Development Committee Chair
Marshall Cohen, Esq, a member of the Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) board of directors, was named chair of the ACA’s development committee. The development committee provides oversight of the organization’s overall fundraising policies, plans, goals and strategies.
“Fundraising plays such an important role for any nonprofit and the Amputee Coalition is no different,” Cohen said in a press release. “I am pleased and excited to accept this important role and am looking forward to advancing key initiatives for the ACA, like launching its first annual fund campaign in 2010.”
Cohen is a partner in the law firm Cohen & Perfetto LLP. Before becoming a lawyer, Cohen received a PhD in American History from Harvard.
Cohen was born with a deformed and enlarged right hip and leg. When he was 64, Cohen and his orthopedist decided that amputation was the best solution for the deteriorating condition of his right leg. On Sept. 11, 2003, he had the amputation and on Oct. 13, 2003, he received a C-leg for field testing.
