BOC Elects Four Board Members

Certificants of the Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC) elected two new members to their board of directors, and reaffirmed through the election process two candidates serving in 1-year appointments to full 3-year terms on the board. Newly elected are Jim Hewlett, BOCO, CFO, and Wayne R. Rosen, BOCPO, CPed, CPO. Board members elected to new full terms are Theresa McLeod, COF, CMF, and Rick E. Sevier, BS Ed, CPed, ROPA, BOC Pedorthist.

Hewlett has 36 years experience, which includes operating an O&P facility. Though semi-retired, Hewlett serves as an orthotic consultant to DME services and O&P practices nationally, and is a national account manager for GreenFlag Recovery. He is certified in orthotics by both BOC and ABC. He is an associate member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, and a member of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Group of America. In addition, he serves on BOC’s exam-item-writing committee and its orthotists video practical exam review panel, and serves as a BOC facility accreditation onsite surveyor.

Rosen, who earned his bachelor’s degree in health science at the City University of New York, Brooklyn College, trained at New York University and the Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine. He is certified in orthotics and prosthetics by BOC, and in orthotics, prosthetics and pedorthics by ABC. He has been involved with several BOC committees, including as an exam writer, and he has served as a video practical exam reviewer since the program’s inception.

McLeod, who joined the board in 2007, works at the Sloan-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center in New York. Currently, she is manages the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center boutique at Sloan-Kettering, where she works with patients, trains and mentors new fitters, and oversees budgeting, purchasing and operations. She earned certification from BOC in 1985 as an orthotic fitter and added certification as a mastectomy fitter. She serves on BOC’s item-writers committee for mastectomy exams.

Sevier joined the board of directors in 2007. He is an instructor in the orthotics, prosthetics and pedorthics program at Oklahoma State University at Okmulgee and CFS Allied Health Education. He also offers pro bono patient services through the university’s O&P clinic. He owns The Comfort Foot Store in Catoosa, Okla. Sevier was previously a full-time instructor at the Des Moines Area Community College’s Advanced Technology Center.
