Rick Sevier, BS Ed, ROPA, CPed, LPed, BOC Pedorthist, and Theresa McLeod, BA Ed, CMF, COF, have been appointed to the board of directors of The Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC). Both are serving 1-year terms.
Sevier is owner and chief instructor of CFS Allied Health Education, which specializes in providing distance learning programs to the health care community through both precertification and continuing education opportunities. He serves as chair of BOC’s education committee.
Sevier and his wife Yolanda, who is a licensed practical nurse/certified pedorthist, own The Comfort Foot Store in Catoosa, Okla. He is also an adjunct instructor in the orthotic, prosthetics and pedorthics associate’s degree program at Oklahoma State University at Okmulgee. Sevier worked previously as a computer technician, web designer and CAD instructor for private firms and Des Moines Community College Oklahoma State University at Okmulgee.
“As a professional educator, I want to add everything I can to the contributions already being made by those outstanding individuals who serve the BOC certificants.” he said in a press release. “On a personal level, I also look forward to gaining knowledge from the people with whom I serve.”
McLeod, a former elementary school teacher, began her career working part-time at a pharmacy and durable medical equipment center. She became a certified orthotic fitter and a certified mastectomy fitter in the 1980s. She serves on BOC’s mastectomy fitter test-writing committee, and also is on the by-laws committee.
McLeod currently works at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where she fits more than 1,000 mastectomy prostheses and 3,000 bras each year to patients who have undergone surgery and treatment. She is also responsible for training employees in fitting, handling, all purchasing and budgeting, and providing management reports on prosthetic operations, sales, inventory and purchases. She previously held positions as a territory manager and training manager for Amoena Corp.
“I have a personal passion for what I do,” McLeod said. “It includes the people I do it for and where I work. I look forward to working on the BOC board, and would like eventually to see the development and growth of advanced CMF certification that includes specialization in lymphedema, psychological assistance, physical education and other areas that improve the fitter’s ability to assist patients.”
