Officials from Ossur Americas recently announced that the company is streamlining its organizational structure to better address its customers’ needs. The braces, supports and spine business units will be consolidated to form Ossur Orthopaedics. The consolidation represents the next step in Ossur’s plan to better align its recently acquired companies with its strategic and financial goals for 2007 and beyond.
“Through organic growth and several strategic acquisitions, Ossur’s business continues to expand. Consequently, we must fine-tune and sharpen our organizational structure on an ongoing basis to maintain our momentum,” said Eythor Bender, president of Ossur Americas.
Ossur Orthopaedics will include functional and sports medicine bracing, orthopedic supports and spinal products. Lisa Tweardy, formerly the general manager of the spine business unit, will become vice president of Orthopaedics. The newly consolidated unit will offer a wide range of innovative products and value-added services along the continuum of care for all major orthopedic customer segments.
Tweardy has a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Lehigh University and a master’s degree in the management of technology from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. In addition to her 18-year career with Jerome Medical, she served as assistant instructor of orthopedic surgery at the Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia from 1986 to 1988.
