The Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC) is introducing online courses for the certified orthotic fitter and the certified mastectomy fitter programs. BOC partners in the online fitter courses include Kassel Group Inc. and Trulife Healthcare. The sponsors have become BOC-approved continuing education course providers. The new online approved courses fulfill the fitter school prerequisite for the certification program, ensuring candidates have access to the required education and training prior to being accepted to sit for the exams. Additional clinical practice prerequisites are required. Course information will be available shortly. The online courses will be launched in 2007-2008.
These certified orthotic fitter comprehensive courses train individuals to fit prefabricated orthotic devices, including spine, cervical, upper and lower extremities and compression devices within the COF scope of practice. The candidate should be prepared to dedicate at least 48 hours to complete the course.
The certified mastectomy fitter online course requires approximately 8 hours, covering the essentials of proper measuring, fitting and evaluation of mastectomy bras and breast prostheses, in addition to other skills in their scope of practice. The courses are designed for entry level personnel and experienced practitioners seeking a refresher course to fulfill continuing professional education hours.
